I had actually wanted to do a full review but sesungguhnya, the mood dah hilang. I just want to talk about some things that bothered or captured my attention during the Wildcard round.
I sincerely think that choosing Norlina Ramli and Hairizam Mohamadan was a mistake. Just think about it. They did not even go through the couple round which means it wouldn’t be fair for them and also for the other contestants. Why it wouldn’t be fair for them is because they didn’t get that extra practice to sharpen their vocals. They couldn’t get the necessary advices from their singing coach or the judges. That was honestly a disadvantage to them.
On the other hand, should either of them be picked for the semi-finals, it wouldn’t be fair to the other contestants for they had to work their asses off to get where they are now and this two happily stroll along, skipped the couples’ performance and breezed through to the semi-finals. Won’t you agree with me that it’s unfair?
Next up, when Rahimah Rahim aka Kak Gerl gave feedback to Hairizam that she didn’t get enough eye contact from him, whose fault was that? Was it Hairizam’s? No. It was the camera people. He was sitting down on the steps and the camera man had to shoot him from the side. He had to definitely look to the side which causes him to not be able to look at the judges. I felt so frustrated when I heard those comments from her. It was really unfair for Hairizam Mohamadan.
This Wildcard round also proved to me that Liza Sanat and Harman Omar both have such a beautiful tone voice. I honestly thought Liza Sanat gave her utmost best performance although for Harman, he did run into quite a number of pitching problems.
The song “Di Bawah Pohon Asmara” sang by Nurun Nuwwarah was such a big mistake. I didn’t like it one bit. It wasn’t Nurun’s style. Mostly because, it didn’t showcase her true vocal talent. To me, it was just a mediocre performance. I would have chosen Liza Sanat over Nurun Nuwwarah even though I know Nurun has been giving consistent performances. It was a wrong choice of song even though she brought it well.
What I like most about Hussein Ahmad’s performance was when he sang the chorus part. It was perfect. The Malay Mat jiwang rock voice. He did it so well that if the song was just based on the chorus, I would have picked him to go to the semi-finals. But of course we all know that isn’t true. A performance should be based from the start till the end of the song, and not just based on the chorus. Hussein was either nervous or still have pitching problems which didn’t allow him to give his best performance.
Aliff Aziz. Sonata Musim Salju was the BEST song for him. Perfect. His rendition was superb. I just couldn’t figure out why he didn’t bring this song for the Piano Show in the first place. If he had sang this song, most probably the Wildcard round would be a fight between Roslan and Hussein. Well probably, “ada hikmah di sebaliknya..” Putting Aliff in the Wildcard round will most likely make him grow stronger because now, he has the advantage of another performance. It will up his popularity and it will definitely boost his confidence. To stand up again after a fall.
On a personal view though, I had ripped the audio out from Aliff’s performance. After listening to it for a number of times, I can’t help but again stand strong on my opinions that Aliff is still so young. Still so raw with so much talent. His breathing during the song was so obvious it disturbed me a hell lot. Aliff Aziz should get a proper vocal coach to further sharpen his potentials. This boy really has so much to give.
Kuryati Abu Bakar. I read the comments at the interactive forum at the Anugerah’s Official Website and I felt so sorry for Kuryati. The things people say about her, I’m just wondering why they even say all that in the first place. What wrong has she done to all of you? Someone said she was thin like a papan and had the cheek to shake her body. I felt like slapping whoever that person who posted that comment.
People might think it was “cheap” of Kuryati to resort to such things but I for one, will applaud her efforts. Why? It’s because this Wildcard round is solely judged by the judges. No SMS votes whatsoever. Which means, she didn’t have to do all that to win the audiences’ votes. She probably did all that to prove to the judges that she can be a versatile singer. One who isn’t afraid to do something out of her comfort zone. Who knows, this might just further convince the “orang kuat” Suria to pick her to become a Suria celebrity. Well, who knows.
The result of the Wildcard round? Nurun Nuwwarah and Aliff Aziz. The results were so predictable that I’m just gonna end the review here. I can’t wait for the Semi-finals round though. I wanna see who will further shine in this competition.
