Itulah komen selamba yang diberikan penyanyi veteran, Rahimah Rahim, mengenai suara juara Anugerah 2007, Aliff Aziz, ketika beliau mengalunkan lagu popular Dewa, Sedang Ingin Bercinta, di peringkat akhir peraduan adu bakat itu, Julai lalu.

Bagaimanapun, belia berusia 16 tahun itu bakal melihat wajahnya terpampang pada kulit album solonya dan suara gemersiknya pula dihidangkan bagi mendendangkan lagu-lagunya sendiri.

‘Sepatutnya album ini dinamakan Bisik-Berbisik!’ seloroh Pengarah Urusan Sony BMG, Encik Adrian Lim, dalam satu sesi mendengar keratan lagu-lagu Aliff, Rabu lalu.

Sesi lebih dua jam untuk media itu diadakan di pejabat Sony BMG di Shaw Centre, Scotts Road. Di situlah, kesemua 11 lagu Aliff (termasuk satu lagu bonus Hari Raya) berkumandang sebagai santapan halwa telinga kami.

Kami terpukau dengan lagu-lagu seperti Ku Sendiri, Cinta Arjuna, Sayang-Sayang dan Dia. Vokal Aliff mampu didengar dengan jelas. Keupayaan vokalnya, malahan, diuji untuk lagu-lagu yang asalnya merupakan lagu Cina dan Jepun.

Encik Lim yang tidak putus-putus membuat wartawan tergelak dengan aksinya (lengkap membuat lambaian tangan dengan penyala api menyinari bagi lagu balada), kerap kali berkata:

‘Ku Sendiri - inilah lagu kegemaran saya. Kalau sesiapa ingin mendengarnya sekali lagi, beritahu saya, ya…’

Sewaktu dicungkil perasaannya, Aliff yang ditemani seisi keluarganya ke sesi tersebut, menjelaskan: ‘Yang paling best tentang memenangi Anugerah ialah kontrak rakaman dengan syarikat Sony BMG, wang tunainya dan peluang mencapai impian memiliki album sendiri dan menunjukkan bakat menyanyi yang sudah lama terpendam.

‘Bukan mudah untuk saya mengembangkan sayap saya dalam bidang ini sekelip mata. Sebelum ini, teman-teman menasihati saya agar berjaga-jaga dan bijak menjawab soalan media Malaysia. Ternyata, memang ada soalannya payah dijawab atau agak kontroversial.

‘Tetapi, saya tidak rasa terancam. Saya cuba menjawabnya sebaik mungkin. Yang paling payah ialah apabila ada yang bertanya sejauh mana saya yakin dan optimistik saya dapat menembusi pasaran Malaysia sebagai penyanyi baru Singapura.

‘Saya memberitahu wartawan itu, saya ingin melihat sendiri sambutan terhadap lagu-lagu saya di Singapura dahulu sebelum meneroka ke pasaran Malaysia. Sebabnya, saya yakin jika seseorang itu berbakat, dia harus berani mengetengahkan bakatnya untuk tatapan ramai.’

Aliff yang berbaju lengan panjang coklat yang dipadankan dengan seluar jeans dan rantai Bling-Bling berbentuk nota muzik, menyukai kesemua lagu di dalam album itu, khususnya Ku Sendiri.

‘Tetapi lagu yang paling mencabar ialah Ini Satu Kisah yang dicipta Neves (Pretty Ugly). Iramanya berbeza dan saya perlu menyesuaikan vokal saya dengan rentak sebegini,’ jelasnya.

Meskipun bukan peminat lagu-lagu pop Korea ataupun pop Jepun, yang digilai remaja, Aliff tetap bersikap terbuka dalam pemilihan lagu.

‘Kalau diberi peluang menembusi pasaran Cina, mengapa tidak? Saya bersedia,’ katanya, yang membawakan semula lagu More than Words versi Frankie J kerana ia adalah lagu yang diminatinya.

Beliau akur mulanya, ibu bapanya tidak menyokong keputusannya memasuki bidang nyanyian.

‘Tetapi selepas mereka lihat menyanyi adalah kecenderungan saya, mereka pun memberikan sokongan sepenuhnya,’ katanya.

Anak emak (terlihat beliau mencium pipi ibunya dan mendakap ibunya mesra) itu, bagaimanapun, enggan mendedahkan nama timang-timangannya.

Untuk peminat Aliff di Singapura, nantikan albumnya, Aliff, di pasaran setempat pada 24 September ini. Aliff juga boleh anda saksikan di Ra-Ra Bazar, Sinar Lebaran, President’s Star Charity dan Intai Raya, tidak lama lagi.

Apa khabar semua? Dah lama tak dengar cerita-cerita heboh dan kecoh sejak Anugerah 2007  berakhir.

Sempena bulan Ramadhan ini, saya bersama silentvisual ingin mengucapkan selamat berpuasa kepada semua umat Islam di Singapura dan di mana-mana sahaja.

Kalau ada yang tak boleh berpuasa tu atau tak mahu berpuasa, kalau nak makan, at least put in the effort to makan secara bersembunyi.

Walaupun setan-setan dirantai di bulan Ramadhan ini, ramai setan bertopeng manusia masih berkeliaran di dunia. Jadi takmo lah buat gitu eh!

Kepada mereka mereka yang tidak puas hati dengan review saya, harap maklum bahawasanya review saya ini semata-mata pandangan saya sahaja. Kalau ada daripada mereka yang baru sahaja jumpa lelaman ini, mungkin awak tidak perasaan kata-kata saya yang telah saya tulis di dalam review di permulaan pertandingan ini.

“Review yang saya akan buat ini bukan untuk semata-mata mahu menegurkan salah silap peserta-peserta kumpulan ini, tetapi untuk memberi pandangan ikhlas saya.”

Saya ini bukan siapa cuma salah seorang penonton pertandingan ini. Memang saya ada kenal dengan empat daripada mereka yang telah pun terlibat di dalam pertandingan ini di bahagian muzik (korang pi pikir lah sape), tapi sesungguhnya, pandangan saya ini tak ada kene mengena dengan markah yang peserta-peserta Anugerah telah pun dapat di dalam pertandingan ini. I have no say lah, kalau cakap omputih.

Lagipun, pertandingan ini sudah pun berakhir. Tetapi sampai hari ini saya masih dapat backlash daripada peminat-peminat Aliff Aziz.

Boleh abang tanya, korang ini ada tak baca review aku part one ngan part two? Tak baca takpe, ni abang compile kan pendapat abang tentang Aliff Aziz.

 Review One:

“Aliff Aziz, the boy whom many loved to hate. Only 16 years of age and brimming with talent and confidence, Aliff Aziz gave exactly what the Anugerah juara should have given. He let go of himself, let his guard down, let the confidence in him take over him and gave his 400% on stage. Notice that I said 400% because Aliff Aziz was such an over-confident boy last night that it came to a point where you felt like smacking him and just shouting at him to be a little humble. And no, his singing did not dramatically improve last night because it was still the same “breathless and raspy” singing. The only good and major improvement was his stage presence. He made the stage his and in other words, CONQUERED the stage. A true performer from his first to his last performance, Aliff Aziz did not let anything hold himself back. You can tell from his body language that he can already foresee himself bagging the Juara title. His determination and confidence was over the tops. You could say that it was good but you could also say that it was bad. A little humble please from a 16 year old? Then again, most of Singapore’s artistes are very humble people but where are they now? Nowhere.Whatever the case, Aliff Aziz’s voice had drowned in the music last night. If so, how is he going to do anymore performances with live bands in the future? It showed just how weak Aliff Aziz’s voice was.When I was in the studio, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING convinced me that Aliff Aziz has the right voice to become the Anugerah 2007 Juara. Yes I am terribly disappointed with the results and I know many are too but what’s done cannot be undone and we just have to accept the fact that Aliff Aziz has won the title of Anugerah 2007 Juara.Congratulations to you Aliff Aziz. Lady luck must have really been smiling broadly at you.“ 

Review Two:

“Probably the only thing I would say about Aliff is that I might have just figured out what is wrong with his singing. Listen carefully and you’ll notice that Aliff Aziz’s voice is one that does not projects to the audience. His voice goes up but not forward. Whoever who cannot understand this should just skip this paragraph. Continuing on, a good singer should be able to project his voice to the audience without having to exert too much force. The few times Aliff actually managed to project his voice was when he had to use a lot a lot of force to a point that it almost comes off as screaming. Probably the reason for this is his choppy breath support like Syafinaz said. For now, I wish Sony BMG all the best of luck in training Aliff Aziz in his vocal area to produce a good album.Yes Aliff Aziz was the better one among the four but that does not mean he deserves to win the Juara title. No we are not insulting him just because we are the orang tua tua who cannot accept a young boy winning all those prizes and cash, but rather we saw him beyond his looks and straight to his singing. Aliff Aziz WILL BE a good singer in a few years’ time given proper vocal training but NOT NOW. Maiya Rahman would have been a more deserving Juara.”

Enough said? Aliff Aziz was smart to acknowledge Ady Cradle, use the earpiece (so he can listen to himself better for those who don’t know), and conquered the stage like how a true Juara should. What I don’t like about him is just his singing and maybe that’s a very personal view. Maybe his style of singing just doesn’t impress me but it may impress many others. So pardon me if I had gotten a little too personal about it. Whatever the case, I will still wish Aliff Aziz the very best as our new Juara and on his upcoming album.

I really wanted to do a second review of the Grand Finals but after watching the videos, I decided not to. Reason being, I might just do a lot of mindless bashing on our new Juara.

The videos are already uploaded so go and watch them over and over again. All I can say is that, whoever who had voted for Aliff Aziz just because “he’s cute” and didn’t listen to his actual singing, I hope when your handphone bill comes next time, you’ll regret the excessive votes, curse yourself and kick yourself hard in the butt (sesungguhnya aku tak tahu macam mana korang nak buat gitu).

The only performance I truly enjoyed from the Grand Finals probably was the one put up by the 9 previously eliminated contestants singing “Bossanova”. For once, you can see them for themselves, with no more obligations, with no more worries of being judged. They put up a performance like how they should have done right from the beginning of the competition. Calm, composed, relax and having all the fun they can get on stage. I hope Suria won’t forget this bunch of people because I must say that all of them really can sing. Good, and well done. Don’t give up but rather persevere on.

Personal view: Did anyone else noticed the huge transformation in all the girls? When I watch Siti Hanah in La Dida Dida, her first performance, and compare to her now, I couldn’t help but feel a little proud at the big change she has gone through. Same goes for Sabby (baik Sabby! Hidup SP slalu), Shakillah and even Kuryati who looks great with lesser make-up. mrK thinks Kuryati is jambu. Plus she’s really really tall. iLike. Hopefully my special someone is not reading this. Wait she merajuk with me. Haha.

Also by the way, why was Kassreeal Alfi not included in this performance? Anyone knows the reason? I only realised he’s missing after watching the video. I felt like I was playing the “Where’s Wally?!” Game trying to find him. Haha. Where’s Kassreeal Where’s Kassreeal Where’s Kassreeal?! Tarak. Don’t know where. -_-”

Like I said before, what’s done is done. To the 3 finalists Nurun Nuwwarah, Roslan Mohamad and Maiya Rahman, I hope something good will come their way. I hope some producer from maybe across the causeway or across the sea (Indonesia lah) would have spotted their talent and let them cut an album. I really really wish to see at least Maiya Rahman and Roslan Mohamad do so to be very honest. For Nurun Nuwwarah, her standing in the local scene is more or less established with her involvements in her previous band, therefore, I think she will still be able to make it big despite not bagging any award.

Congratulations to all who have taken part in Anugerah 2007. It’s been a great time getting to know so many of the contestants’ supporters and those who supported this site. I reached home almost at 1am last night and wanted to do the review immediately but knowing the person that I am, I decided to write this review after some good thinking rather than be swayed by my emotions at that point of time.

As I tossed and turned in bed, the images, sound and motion of last night’s show kept replaying in my mind. For those who didn’t know, I was at Mediacorp last night with 3 of my cousins and we were somewhere near one of the contestants’ supporters.

I arrived at the studio with an open mind. I told myself this is a competition and anything could happen. The one whom we all were rooting for might not win, the one whom we all rather see study for his major exam might win, the dark horse might not be able to control his nerves and the consistent one might be hindered by something to prevent her from reaching that victory line.

Two years ago at Anugerah 2005, Syed Azmir was the clear favourite among the four contestants, the other three being Hyrul Anuar, Khairil Yusoff and Fauzie Laily. It was almost obvious that the judges loved Syed Azmir. With every performance he gave before the finals, he received nothing but praises and praises. But little did we know, Hyrul Anuar, the dark horse among the four, kept his cool, practiced hard, prayed to God, controlled his nerves during the finals, gave his 200%, swayed the audience to vote for him even if they never liked him before and thus, won for himself the title of Juara Anugerah 2005. Syed Azmir still gave a wonderful performance and till today, I will always remember his “Apa” performance but what made Hyrul Anuar give Syed Azmir a run for his money was Hyrul’s confidence on stage during the finals. This was probably the case too with Aliff Aziz.

To be there in the studio itself, you can see upfront the stage presence of each and every contestant last night. Nurun Nuwwarah, despite being sick, tried her very very best to forget this obstacle and gave nothing but her best. I was impressed. She had performed as if she wasn’t sick at all. Two years ago, I remember that Fauzie Laily had fallen sick too before the finals and during his performances in the finals, he just couldn’t forget about his sickness. But with Nurun Nuwwarah, it was a completely different story. I have nothing but praises for her, for this girl’s determination to win the competition was simply laudable. However, this wasn’t enough for Nurun Nuwwarah to garner enough votes from the audience and the judges. Her sore throat made her voice terribly husky and when you’re having flu/sore throat, pitching problems come into place as your nasal and hearing will be seriously affected. Unfortunately for Nurun Nuwwarah, the juara title wasn’t hers to bag.

Roslan Mohamad. He mentioned during the Ekstra! Episode that he was going to bring a song “Bonda” as a dedication to his late mum. Some friends, acquaintences and strangers had said that he probably decided to bring that song to win sympathy votes for himself. Upon hearing those comments, I wish I can make all these people stand in one straight line and from the beginning till the end of that line, I will slap each and everyone of them. Why and what makes me say that is because during his performance for this song, you could tell and feel that this was an honest dedication for his mum. A few times he did run into pitching problems but when the camera gave a close up shot of him (and I was looking at the big screen rather), you can see in his eyes he had kept his mum in mind and got out of the pitchy moments whenever he must have seen the image of his mum in his heart. Dear God I do not know Roslan nor I am him and I could be wrong, but this was what I exactly saw during his performance. It was a performance which touched my heart and soul.

But for the rest of his performances, Roslan still couldn’t conquer his nerves and that was probably the only frustrating thing about him. I felt like shouting to him from where I was to just let it go. He needed to learn to let go, drop all barriers holding him back and showcase the kind of confidence he SHOULD have by then. Vocal wise, I’ll agree with that Malaysian judge that Roslan has a very beautiful tone for his voice. Image wise, he’s been improving in this area alot lately. Confidence wise, he should have enough experience to lose all the jitters. Votes wise, Roslan has more than enough supporters backing him. But unfortunately, I choose to believe that Roslan’s only downfall was not giving what he should have given - his 200% WITH his nervousness under control.

Maiya Rahman, my personal favourite. One word to describe her last night - confusing. There was something terribly amiss with Maiya. When I watched her performed, it felt like she wasn’t her usual self. She was VERY self-conscious of herself on stage and her body language said it all. Maiya was either REALLY nervous or maybe just afraid to give her best. I choose to believe it’s the former of course because there was no other reason for her to be afraid of the stage. She has been the hot favourite because of her amazing voice, have enough experience in performing (before and during Anugerah), and have for herself a steady group of supporters. I could be wrong because I was in the Studio and couldn’t really see her upfront unless the camera gave her an up-close shot and I happened to catch it on the screen. Simply said, Maiya was holding herself back for some reason. I didn’t see her 200% on stage last night. Yes I was a little disappointed when it comes to her overall performance but singing wise, it was perfect. If I have my own recording company (which is impossible since I still have 3 years of university studies to complete), I wouldn’t hesitate to sign Maiya Rahman up immediately. She has a very very good voice, both unique and outstanding but her performance physically didn’t match up to her singing. That was Maiya Rahman’s own downfall, unfortunately…

I will be doing a second review after silentvisual has sent me the videos of last night’s show. Until then, I shall not review the performance any further because I would honestly love to watch the “tv version” of their performance. Why? Because the studio was so freaking loud last night that I couldn’t hear the true quality of the contestants’ singing. Whatever the case, Aliff Aziz’s voice had drowned in the music last night. If so, how is he going to do anymore performances with live bands in the future? It showed just how weak Aliff Aziz’s voice was.
